Araucaria rulei is a conifer species in the Araucariaceae family, native to New Caledonia. It is classified as endangered due to habitat fragmentation and nickel mining. This species is restricted to dry, serpentine soils with high nickel content, typically at elevations below 1,000 m. Its populations are small and scattered, with its range nearly entirely confined to nickel-rich areas.

Description

Araucaria rulei, described by F.Muell. in 1860, is a member of the Araucariaceae family. It is found only in New Caledonia, where it inhabits dry, nutrient-poor soils derived from serpentine rock. The species is particularly associated with areas containing high concentrations of nickel, a characteristic that has made it vulnerable to habitat loss due to mining activities. The fragmentation of its populations and the limited extent of its range contribute to its endangered status. Conservation efforts are necessary to protect this species from further decline.
