Agathis atropurpurea, commonly known as black kauri, is a conifer species in the Araucariaceae family. It is native to a limited area in northeastern Queensland, Australia. The species was formally described in 1978 by B.Hyland.

Description

Agathis atropurpurea is a member of the Araucariaceae, an ancient conifer family that once had a widespread distribution during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Today, the family is primarily found in the Southern Hemisphere. This species is endemic to a small region in northeastern Queensland. It is also known by the common names blue kauri, black kauri, and purple kauri.
