Agathis montana, known as Mount Panié Kauri, is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae. It is endemic to high elevations of Mont Panié in New Caledonia. The species name montana refers to its mountainous origin. The tree is known locally as 'Dayu Biik' in Nemi and Fwâi. A recently dead tree of this species, 80 m tall, was estimated to be 1,100–1,300 years old. Threats include feral pigs, Phytophthora disease, bark beetles, and climate change.

Description

Agathis montana is a long-lived conifer found only in the higher elevations of Mont Panié in New Caledonia. It is part of the Araucariaceae family and is known for its longevity, as evidenced by a 80 m tall tree estimated to be over a thousand years old. The species is under threat from multiple factors, including feral pigs, Phytophthora disease, bark beetles, and the impacts of climate change. Locally, it is called 'Dayu Biik' in Nemi and Fwâi. The species was first described in 1969 by de Laub.
