Narrow-leaf araucaria
Araucaria subulata Vieill.

Araucaria subulata, known as narrow-leaf araucaria, is a conifer species in the Araucariaceae family. It is native to New Caledonia, where it occurs in the central and southern mountain regions of Grande Terre, particularly on Mont Dzumac and Mont des Sources. This species can grow up to 50 meters tall and is one of the tallest endemic araucaria species in the region. Young trees exhibit growth habits similar to the Norfolk Island Pine. Although habitat loss threatens araucaria trees in New Caledonia, A. subulata is currently considered stable and not endangered.
Description
Araucaria subulata was first described in 1861 by Vieill. It belongs to the genus Araucaria and is part of the Araucariaceae family. This species is distributed only in New Caledonia, where it grows in scattered populations across mountainous areas. The tree is notable for its height and is among the tallest of the endemic araucaria species in the region. While it shares some juvenile growth characteristics with the Norfolk Island Pine, it is a distinct species. Threats from habitat loss are a concern for all araucaria trees in New Caledonia, but A. subulata is currently not classified as threatened or endangered.
