Eurybia macrophylla, known as bigleaf aster, is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family. It is native to eastern North America, ranging from Canada to the northeastern United States and as far west as Minnesota, Missouri, and Arkansas. The plant blooms in late summer to early fall, with ray florets typically deep lavender or violet and disc florets that start cream or light yellow and turn purple as they mature. It is one of the parent species of the hybrid Eurybia × herveyi.

Description

Eurybia macrophylla is a member of the Asteraceae family and was previously classified under the genus Aster. It is found in eastern and central Canada, as well as the northeastern United States, including regions such as New England, the Great Lakes, and the Appalachians. The plant features large leaves and showy flowers, with ray florets that are usually deep lavender or violet, though white variants exist. The disc florets are initially cream or light yellow and darken to purple as they mature. It is a parent species of the hybrid Eurybia × herveyi. The species was first described in 1825.
