Araucaria bernieri is a conifer species in the family Araucariaceae, native to New Caledonia. It grows at elevations below 700 meters, primarily in the southern part of the main island. The species can reach 40–50 meters in height, though growth is stunted on poor soils. It is classified as threatened due to habitat loss, with fewer than 10,000 mature trees remaining in the wild, and populations continuing to decline.

Description

Araucaria bernieri, known as Bernier's columnar araucaria, is a tall tree species endemic to New Caledonia. It is part of the Araucariaceae family and was described by J.Buchholz in 1949. The species is distributed in lowland areas, mainly in the south of the main island. Trees typically grow to 40–50 meters, though soil quality affects their size. Habitat loss is the primary threat, leading to a significant reduction in its population. Conservation efforts are needed to prevent further decline.
