Daphnandra tenuipes, known as Red-flowered Socketwood, is a rainforest tree native to eastern Australia. It is found from New South Wales to Queensland, growing on fertile basaltic and alluvial soils. This small to medium-sized tree is characterized by red new shoots and red flowers, with dark green lanceolate or ovate leaves measuring 4–13 cm in length and 1.5–3 cm in width.
Description
Daphnandra tenuipes, commonly called Red-flowered Socketwood, is a tree species in the Atherospermataceae family. It is native to eastern Australia, with a distribution range from near Taree in New South Wales to Springbrook National Park in Queensland. The tree thrives on fertile basaltic and alluvial soils. It is distinguished by its red new shoots and red flowers, and its leaves are dark green, lanceolate or ovate in shape, and measure 4–13 cm in length and 1.5–3 cm in width. The species was first described by Perkins in 1901.
