Strelitzia nicolai, commonly known as the bird-of-paradise -tree, is a species in the Strelitziaceae family. It is native to regions including Africa, Botswana, KwaZulu-Natal, Mozambique, New South Wales, Queensland, Sicilia, and Zimbabwe. This plant was first described in 1858 by Regel & Körn.
Description
Strelitzia nicolai, also referred to as the wild banana or giant white bird of paradise, is a banana-like plant with erect woody stems that can grow up to 7–8 m (23–26 ft) in height. The plant forms clumps that may spread up to 3.5 m (11 ft) in width.
