About Flolape

Flolape is a free, open multilingual plant encyclopedia. We collect taxonomy and ecological information from authoritative open data sources — World Flora Online (WFO), the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons — and present species in 23 languages, including underserved ones.

How we generate content

Common (vernacular) names come directly from GBIF and Wikidata — they are not invented. The descriptive prose for each species is generated by an open-source language model (Qwen 3 32B) using the structured facts as context, and is reviewed for quality. Photos are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and GBIF, with attribution preserved per the original license.
