Rossioglossum grande, known as the Tiger orchid, is an epiphytic orchid in the Orchidaceae family. Native to regions from Chiapas to Costa Rica, it features up to eight large, 13-inch diameter flowers with a glossy golden yellow color and brown barring. The petals are yellow with a red-brown lower half, and the lip is white, occasionally flecked with red-brown. The gray-green pseudobulbs range from 4 to 10 cm in length and bear two leaves each.
Description
Rossioglossum grande is a species of orchid that grows in the southeastern part of Mexico, as well as in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. It is characterized by its large, showy flowers, which can reach up to 13 inches in diameter. The flowers are typically bright golden yellow with brown barring, and the larger petals have a red-brown lower half. The lip is white and may have red-brown flecks. The plant's pseudobulbs are gray-green and range from 4 to 10 cm in length, with each pseudobulb supporting two leaves. This species was first described in 1976.
