Desfontainia spinosa, commonly known as taique, is a species in the family Columelliaceae. It was first described by Ruiz & Pav. in 1799. This plant is found in several protected areas in Colombia, including Parque Nacional Natural Nevado del Huila, Parque Nacional Natural Las Orquídeas, and Parque Nacional Natural Complejo Volcanico Doña Juana - Cascabel, as well as in regions such as Cauca, Argelia, San Juan de la Guadua, Nuevo Horizonte, and the southern part of the Serranía El Pinche. Its distribution also extends to Global and Peru, including the city of Pasto.
Description
Desfontainia spinosa is a member of the Columelliaceae family and is known by the common name taique. The species was formally described by Ruiz & Pav. in 1799. It is native to parts of Colombia, where it occurs in several national parks and natural reserves, including Parque Nacional Natural Nevado del Huila, Parque Nacional Natural Las Orquídeas, and Parque Nacional Natural Complejo Volcanico Doña Juana - Cascabel. Additional records of the species have been documented in Cauca, Argelia, San Juan de la Guadua, Nuevo Horizonte, and the southern part of the Serranía El Pinche. The plant is also found in Global and in Peru, particularly in the area around Pasto.
