Scadoxus multiflorus is a bulbous plant native to sub-Saharan Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, the Seychelles, and the Indian peninsula. It has been naturalized in Mexico and the Chagos Archipelago. The plant is cultivated as an ornamental for its vivid flowers and has three recognized subspecies. It is toxic and has been used in arrow and fishing poisons, as well as in traditional medicine. Common names include blood lily, fireball lily, and Katherine-wheel, among others.
Description
Scadoxus multiflorus is a member of the Amaryllidaceae family and is distributed across regions including Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. It is also found in the Seychelles and the Indian peninsula, with naturalized populations in Mexico and the Chagos Archipelago. The plant is cultivated for its ornamental value, particularly for its brightly colored flowers.
