Scadoxus membranaceus is a bulbous flowering plant in the Amaryllidaceae family, native to the Cape Provinces and KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It is the smallest species in the genus Scadoxus and is occasionally grown as an ornamental plant in regions where temperatures do not fall below 5 °C (41 °F).
Description
Scadoxus membranaceus, described in 1976, belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family. This plant is indigenous to South Africa and is characterized by its bulbous growth form. It is the smallest member of the Scadoxus genus and is sometimes cultivated for ornamental purposes in controlled environments with a minimum temperature of 5 °C (41 °F).
