Lewisia leeana, known as quill-leaf lewisia, is a flowering plant in the Montiaceae family. It is native to California and Oregon, growing in the Sierra Nevada and Klamath Ranges. This perennial herb has a narrow, woody taproot and produces a basal rosette of fleshy, flat to cylindrical leaves up to 4 cm long. It blooms with multiple flowers on erect, branching stems up to 24 cm tall, each with 5 to 8 white, pink, or purplish petals about half a centimeter long.
Description
Lewisia leeana is a perennial herb in the Montiaceae family, found in the Sierra Nevada and Klamath Ranges of California and Oregon. It grows from a narrow, woody taproot connected to one or more caudices. The plant forms a basal rosette of fleshy, flat to cylindrical leaves, up to 4 cm in length. The inflorescence consists of multiple flowers on upright, branching stems reaching up to 24 cm in height. Each flower has 5 to 8 petals, white, pink, or purplish in color, each approximately half a centimeter long. The species was first described in 1897.
