Pentarhizidium orientale
Pentarhizidium orientale (Hook.) Hayata

Pentarhizidium orientale, known as the Oriental ostrich fern, is a fern species native to China, Japan, and the Himalayas. It reaches a height and width of approximately 0.6 m (2 ft). Originally classified under the genus Matteuccia, it was reclassified into the new genus Pentarhizidium following phylogenetic research, alongside P. intermedium.
Description
Pentarhizidium orientale belongs to the family Onocleaceae and was described in 1928. It is found in regions including Taiwan (TW) and Southeast Asia (SE). The species is distinguished by its unique morphology and evolutionary lineage, which necessitated its placement in a separate genus from related species. Its reclassification reflects advances in understanding fern phylogeny.
