Mitchella repens is a creeping, prostrate herbaceous woody shrub in the madder family (Rubiaceae). It is native to North America and is the best known species in the genus Mitchella.

Mitchella repens, commonly known as Partridge Berry, is a low-growing, woody shrub found in various regions across North America. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family and is characterized by its creeping growth habit. The species is distributed in areas such as Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Vermont-US, Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Guatemala, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mexico Northeast, and Mexico Southeast. First described in 1753 by Linnaeus, it is a well-known representative of the genus Mitchella.
