Nitraria retusa, a salt-tolerant and drought-resistant shrub in the family Nitrariaceae, is found in various regions across North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. It typically grows up to 1 m in height, though it can reach 2.5 m. The plant produces white/green flowers and small red fruit.

Description

Nitraria retusa, known as Nitre bush, is a shrub belonging to the Nitrariaceae family. It is well adapted to arid and saline environments, growing in regions such as Algeria, the Canary Islands, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon-Syria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sinai, Sudan, Tunisia, and Western Sahara. The shrub usually reaches a height of up to 1 m, though it may occasionally grow as tall as 2.5 m. It is characterized by its white/green flowers and the production of small red fruit. The species was first described in 1876.
