Martinella insignis
Martinella insignis A.H.Gentry ex Zuntini & L.G.Lohmann

Martinella insignis is a species of liana in the Bignoniaceae family, native to the Atlantic Forest in northeastern and southeastern Brazil. It was described in 2014 by A.H.Gentry ex Zuntini & L.G.Lohmann. The species is notable for its membranous leaflets with pocket-shaped domatia on the abaxial surface, 5-lobed and aristate calyces, and yellow corollas. It is rare, with only a few known herbarium collections.
Description
Martinella insignis is a climbing plant with solid, cylindrical, green branches that become brown and striated when dry. The plant is densely covered with stipitate glandular trichomes. Leaves are 2-foliolate, with the terminal leaflet modified into a trifid tendril. Leaflets are ovate, with a cordate base and acuminate to caudate apex. Inflorescences are in compound thyrses, with linear to narrowly elliptic bracts. Flowers have a pale green, campanulate calyx and yellow corolla. The species is distinguished by its unique leaf domatia and calyx morphology.
