Lewisia kelloggii is a flowering plant in the Montiaceae family, native to the Sierra Nevada in California. It grows in rocky, high-altitude habitats on granite and slate. The plant is a perennial herb with a thick taproot and a basal rosette of spoon-shaped, leathery leaves up to 9 cm long. It produces an inflorescence with several flowers, each having 5 to 13 shiny white or pinkish petals. The flowers are supported by short stalks and have two sepals and two bracts with resin glands beneath the petals.
Description
Lewisia kelloggii, known as Kellogg's lewisia, is a perennial herb found in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. It is adapted to rocky, alpine environments with granite and slate substrates. The plant features a rosette of thick, spoon-shaped leaves up to 9 cm in length. Its inflorescence includes multiple flowers, each with 5 to 13 petals that are white or pinkish in color. The flowers are supported by short pedicels and have two sepals and two bracts with spherical resin glands. This species was first described in 1894 by K. Brandegee.
