Tsuga dumosa, known as Himalayan Hemlock, is a conifer native to the eastern Himalayas. It is found in Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Tibet. The tree is used locally for construction and furniture. It was introduced to Europe and North America as an ornamental species and first arrived in the United Kingdom in 1838.
Description
Tsuga dumosa belongs to the family Pinaceae and is part of the genus Tsuga. It is distributed across several regions including China South-Central, East Himalaya, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, and West Himalaya. This species was first described in 1887. Within its native range, it is valued for its timber, which is used in construction and furniture making. Outside its native range, it is occasionally cultivated for ornamental purposes.
