Cynara scolymus L., known as globe artichoke, is a species in the Asteraceae family. It was first described in 1753. Its distribution includes regions such as Portugal, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Greece, Spain, Turkey (in Europe), Romania, India, Libya, Albania, Australia, Colombia, and Japan.

Description

Cynara scolymus is a member of the genus Cynara in the family Asteraceae. The species is commonly referred to as globe artichoke. It is widely cultivated and naturalized in various regions across Europe, the Mediterranean, and other parts of the world. The typification of this species was clarified by Kupicha, who designated specimen 969.1 (LINN) as the lectotype. This typification is accepted in botanical nomenclature.
