It is native to a wide range across Africa and parts of Asia, including Angola, Botswana, Cambodia, and Vietnam, among other regions. The species was first described in 1898 and belongs to the family Gisekiaceae.

Description

Gisekia africana is a low-growing annual herb that thrives in coastal sands and wooded savannah environments. It is distributed across multiple countries in Africa and parts of Asia, including Angola, Botswana, Cambodia, and Vietnam. In Angola, it is documented in Quiçama National Park, where it is known locally as 'lasolegea' (kb). The species was formally published in 1898 and is part of the Gisekiaceae family. Specimens have been collected and are housed in herbaria such as LUAI and LISC.
