Reynoutria sachalinensis, known as giant knotweed or Sakhalin knotweed, is a species of the genus Reynoutria in the family Polygonaceae. It is native to northeastern Asia, including northern Japan and the far east of Russia. The plant is also known by the common name Elephant-Ear and was first described in 1922.
Description
Reynoutria sachalinensis (F.Schmidt) Nakai is a member of the Polygonaceae family and is found in regions such as Newfoundland, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, as well as parts of Europe and other countries. It is native to northern Japan and the far east of Russia. This species is widely distributed and has been recorded in several regions across North America and Europe.
