Cretan zelkova

Zelkova abelicea (Lam.) Boiss., a member of the Ulmaceae family, is a tree species found exclusively in Crete, where it is commonly called abelitsia. It is part of the genus Zelkova and was first described in 1879. The species is rare and occurs in small numbers, which has led to its listing as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species. Its restricted range and low population make it a species of conservation concern.
