Cochlospermum planchonii is a member of the Bixaceae family and is found in a range of West African countries such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Togo. It is also documented in regions including Base-Guinée, Guinée forestière, Haute-Guinée, and Moyenne-Guinée. The species was first published in 1847 by Hook.f. ex Planch.
