Tsuga caroliniana, known as the Carolina Hemlock, is a hemlock species native to the southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States. It is currently under review for protection under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.

Description

Tsuga caroliniana belongs to the genus Tsuga in the family Pinaceae. It is found in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. First described in 1881 by Engelm, this species is recognized by its restricted geographic range and is considered a part of the broader global distribution of the genus. The species is named after its primary region of occurrence and is a key component of the southern Appalachian forest ecosystems.
