Description

Cariniana ianeirensis, described by R.Knuth in 1934, is a member of the Lecythidaceae family. It occurs in the Atlantic Forest region of Rio de Janeiro state and in the Santa Cruz Department of Bolivia. In Brazil, the species is documented from four collections in the Tijuca and Itaocara forests. Its natural habitat is under pressure from deforestation and urban development, especially in the Rio de Janeiro area, which has led to a decline in its population and range.
