Cariniana estrellensis is a rainforest tree species in the Lecythidaceae family, native to South America. It is known for its exceptional size, with one recorded specimen having a girth of 22 m (72 ft) without buttresses or basal swelling. Another notable individual measured 6 m (20 ft) in diameter at 1.8 m above ground and had a fallen limb 1.2 m thick and 15 m (49 ft) long.

Description

Cariniana estrellensis (Raddi) Kuntze is a member of the Lecythidaceae family and is distributed across Brazil, including the Northeast, North, Southeast, South, and West-Central regions, as well as Bolivia and Paraguay. The species is recognized for its remarkable size, with one of the largest rainforest trees ever measured being a C. estrellensis recorded by Edmundo Navarro de Andrade. Another significant specimen was documented by David G. Fairchild and Barbour Lathrop on the Bergon Coffee Estate near São Paulo. The species was first described in 1898.
