Bog Myrtle
Myrica gale L.

Myrica gale, commonly known as Bog Myrtle, is a flowering plant species in the family Myricaceae. It is native to cool temperate regions of Eurasia and North America. The species was first described in 1753 by Linnaeus.
Description
Myrica gale is distributed across regions including Labrador, Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, and other Canadian provinces, as well as parts of Europe such as Portugal, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. It is also known by other common names such as sweet gale, Dutch myrtle, and sweetgale. A discussion in botanical literature notes a proposal by Verdcourt & Polhill to conserve M. cerifera L. as the type species of the genus, though this was not adopted by the Committee for Spermatophyta.
