Avicennia officinalis, commonly known as baen, is a mangrove species in the Acanthaceae family. It is distributed across regions including Langkawi, Andaman Is., Bangladesh, Borneo, Cambodia, India, Jawa, Lesser Sunda Is., Malaya, Maluku, Myanmar, New Guinea, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Philippines, Queensland, Sri Lanka, Sulawesi, and Sumatera. The species was first published in 1753 by L.

Description

Avicennia officinalis is a species of mangrove found in tropical and subtropical coastal areas. It is part of the genus Avicennia, named after the Persian scientist Ibn Sina. This species is commonly referred to as baen in local and English contexts. Its wide distribution includes coastal regions of Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and parts of Australia. Avicennia officinalis is adapted to saline and brackish water environments and plays a significant ecological role in mangrove ecosystems.
