Chamaecyparis thyoides is a species of the Cupressaceae family native to the Atlantic coast of North America, ranging from southern Maine to Georgia and along the Gulf of Mexico coast from Florida to Mississippi. It is one of two Chamaecyparis species in North America, with C. lawsoniana found on the West Coast. The species has two subspecies, Chamaecyparis thyoides thyoides and Chamaecyparis thyoides henryae, which are sometimes classified as distinct species or at varietal rank. The tree is commonly found in forested wetlands and is associated with a variety of other wetland species due to its extensive range. Due to its remote locations, the species is no longer widely harvested for lumber.
