Matteuccia struthiopteris, được xuất bản năm 1866, là loài duy nhất trong chi Matteuccia. Loài này thuộc họ Onocleaceae, phân bố tại nhiều khu vực ở châu Âu và một số nơi tại Bắc Mỹ như Vermont-US. Tên loài có nguồn gốc từ tiếng Hy Lạp cổ đại, ám chỉ hình dạng giống như lông chim của cây.
Description
Matteuccia struthiopteris, hay còn gọi là Fiddlehead Fern, có tên khoa học được đặt theo hai từ στρουθίων (strouthíōn) - 'ostrich' và πτερίς (pterís) - 'fern', mô tả đặc điểm hình thái của cây. Loài này phân bố tại nhiều quốc gia như Đan Mạch, Phần Lan, Na Uy, Thụy Sĩ, Bỉ, Pháp, Hà Lan, Vương quốc Anh, Cộng hòa Séc, Ireland, và một số khu vực tại Mỹ như Vermont. Trong thảo luận khoa học, có ghi nhận rằng mẫu vật Arduino được sử dụng làm mẫu chuẩn không phải là vật liệu gốc do Linnaeus nhận trước năm 1753.
