Notothylas orbicularis เป็นสปีชีส์หนึ่งในสกุล Notothylas ซึ่งอยู่ในวงศ์ Notothyladaceae พบในภูมิภาคทางตอนเหนือของอเมริกาเหนือ ได้แก่ Labrador, Québec, บริติชโคลัมเบีย (BR) และเวอร์มอนต์ (สหรัฐอเมริกา) ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์นี้ได้รับการตีพิมพ์ครั้งแรกในปี ค.ศ. 1846 โดยนักพฤกษศาสตร์ Sull. ซึ่งได้ปรับปรุงชื่อจากต้นฉบับของ Schwein.
