Hyparrhenia cymbaria หรือชื่อสามัญคือ boat thatching grass เป็นชนิดหนึ่งของหญ้าพุ่มที่มีอายุหลายปี มีแหล่งกำเนิดในแอฟริกา มาดากัสการ์ และอินเดีย ปัจจุบันกระจายพันธุ์ไปยังหลายประเทศในแอฟริกาและอื่น ๆ รวมถึงเม็กซิโก ซึ่งเป็นที่ที่มันถูกนำเข้ามา ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์นี้ตีพิมพ์ในปี ค.ศ. 1919 โดย Stapf
