Melocactus zehntneri (Britton & Rose) Luetzelb.
Melocactus zehntneri to gatunek kaktusa z rodzaju Melocactus, pochodzący z północno-wschodniego Brazylii, konkretnie z stanu Bahia. Rośliny te charakteryzują się okrągłą dolną częścią z ok. 11 pionowymi żebrami oraz wydłużoną górną częścią, nazywaną cephalum, która może osiągać do 72 cm długości. Wyróżnia się wysoką phyllotaksją, zazwyczaj 34/55. Gatunek ten został odkryty w 1968 roku przez Leopolda Horsta i A.F.H. Buininga.
Description
Melocactus zehntneri należy do rodziny Cactaceae i występuje w regionie BR, głównie w północno-wschodniej Brazylii. Roślina posiada dolną część o funkcji fotosyntetycznej oraz górną część, która jest kapitową inflorescencją. Cephalum może rosnąć przez wiele lat, tworząc nawet 16 rocznych pierścieni, co czyni ją jednym z najdłużej żyjących inflorescencji. Gatunek ten był wcześniej nazywany Melocactus giganteus i Cactus zehntneri.
