Urera kaalae, or opuhe, is a flowering plant in the Urticaceae family, native to Oʻahu in Hawaii. It grows in mesic forests at elevations of 300–760 m in the southern and central parts of the Waiʻanae Mountains. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Description
Urera kaalae is found in slopes and gulches of mesic forests on Oʻahu. It is associated with a range of native plants including maile, hame, Asplenium kaulfusii, Athyrium spp., and Hibiscus spp. The species is currently restricted to specific areas due to habitat loss. It was first described by Wawra in 1874.
