Trillium nivale, the dwarf white trillium, is a flowering plant in the Melanthiaceae family. It is native to the eastern and midwestern United States, including states such as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The species was first described in 1835 by Riddell.

Description

Trillium nivale is a herbaceous perennial plant known for its white, three-petaled flowers. It typically grows in forested areas and is adapted to a range of soil conditions. The plant is part of the Melanthiaceae family, which includes other herbaceous plants with similar ecological preferences. It is commonly found in the Great Lakes region, the Ohio Valley, and the Upper Mississippi Valley, extending as far north as central Minnesota. The species is characterized by its compact growth and early blooming period.
