Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides, the false-waterberry, is a small flowering tree and the only species in the genus Rhynchocalyx. Formerly classified in the monogeneric family Rhynchocalycaceae, it is now included in the expanded Penaeaceae under the APG III system. It is native to the KwaZulu-Cape coastal forest mosaic ecoregion in South Africa.

Description

Rhynchocalyx lawsonioides (Oliv.) is a flowering tree in the family Penaeaceae. It is found in the coastal forests of the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. Previously considered the sole member of the family Rhynchocalycaceae, it was reclassified into the Penaeaceae family. This species was first described in 1894 and is known by the common name false-waterberry. It is part of the genus Rhynchocalyx, which is endemic to the region.
