It belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to the Cape Fold Mountains in South Africa, ranging from the Cape Peninsula in the Western Cape to the Kouga Mountains in the Eastern Cape.

Cyrtanthus ventricosus, known as fire lily, is a bulbous plant in the Amaryllidaceae family. It is a deciduous species that reaches a height of 100–250 mm. This plant is native to the Cape Fold Mountains in South Africa, where it is found from the Cape Peninsula in the Western Cape to the Kouga Mountains in the Eastern Cape. It was first described in 1799 by Willd.
