Citrullus colocynthis는 Cucurbitaceae 과에 속하는 독한 사막성 덩굴식물로, 지중해 지역과 서아시아에 원산지이다. 다른 이름으로 colocynth, 비타구리, 비타오이, 소드의 덩굴, 야생호박 등이 있다. 1838년 Schrad.에 의해 발표되었다.
Description
Citrullus colocynthis는 Levant, 터키, 누비아를 포함한 지중해 지역과 서아시아에서 자라는 식물이다. 이 식물은 독성이 있으며, 다양한 별칭이 사용된다. 학명은 (L.) Schrad.에 의해 확정되었으며, 학명의 유래에 대한 오해가 있었으나, LINN의 수집품은 원래 자료가 아니라는 점이 밝혀졌다. 분포 지역은 오네타와, 사오미格尔 섬, 터키, 그리스, 불가리아, 헝가리, 스페인, 스웨덴, 스웨덴, 폴란드, MG, AM, AU, BG, 캐나다, 미국 48개 주, 아프가니스탄, 알라배마, 알제리 등이다.
