Callitriche antarctica는 Plantaginaceae 과에 속하는 작은 낮게 자라나는 식물로, 작은 노란 꽃이 특징이다. 서식지는 남극과 주변 여러 아남극 섬들의 습한 지역이며, 분포는 남극을 중심으로 넓게 이루어진다. 학명의 specific epithet 'antarctica'는 이러한 분포를 반영한다.
Description
Callitriche antarctica는 줄기와 잎의 기부가 서로 붙어 컵 모양을 이루는 것이 특징이다. 잎은 육질이며, 수중 또는 떠다니는 잎은 2.3–10.0 mm 길이, 1.3–4.8 mm 너비로 3개의 주맥이 있으며, 때때로 추가적인 자유맥이 나타난다. 꽃은 단독으로 피며, 상부 꽃은 수꽃, 하부 꽃은 암꽃이다. 열매는 날개가 없으며, 어두운 갈색 또는 검은색으로 익는다. 이 종은 C. aucklandica를 제외한 다른 Callitriche 종들과는 육질 잎과 기부가 붙은 형태로 구별된다.
