Aphananthe philippinensis는 1848년 플랑슈(Planch.)에 의해 기술된 우림의 나무로, 필리핀 루손 섬에서 처음 기록되었다. 이 식물은 호주, 비스마르크 제도, 뉴기니, 뉴사우스웨일스, 퀸즐랜드, 솔로몬 제도에 걸쳐 분포한다. 마약과에 속하며, '아스베스토스-트리'라는 영문 흔한 이름으로 알려져 있다. 학명의 Aphananthe는 꽃이 눈에 띄지 않는다는 의미를 담고 있다.
