Triticum zhukovskyi is a hexaploid wheat species native to the Transcaucasus region. It is closely related to Triticum timopheevii and is thought to have originated as an amphiploid from a cross between T. timopheevii and Triticum monococcum. First observed in Western Georgia, it was described in 1960 by Menabde and Ericzjan.
Description
Triticum zhukovskyi, commonly known as Zhukovsky's wheat, belongs to the Poaceae family. It is a hexaploid wheat species that closely resembles the tetraploid Triticum timopheevii. The species was first observed growing in Western Georgia alongside T. timopheevii and Triticum monococcum. It is hypothesized to have arisen through hybridization between these two species. T. zhukovskyi is native to the Transcaucasus region and was formally described in 1960 by Menabde and Ericzjan.
