Porophyllum ruderale (Jacq.) Cass.
Porophyllum ruderale, known as Yerba porosa, is an herbaceous annual plant in the Asteraceae family. It is used as a seasoning in food, particularly in salsas in Mexico and South America. The plant can grow up to 150 cm in height and 90 cm in diameter. Its leaves have a flavor described as a combination of arugula, cilantro, and rue. The species was first published in 1826.
Description
Porophyllum ruderale is a member of the Asteraceae family and is distributed across several regions in South America, including Antioquia, Cauca, and Chocó in Colombia, as well as in Brazil, Bolivia, and other parts of the Americas. The plant is cultivated for its culinary use, particularly in salsas. Its type status remains untypified according to the discussion in the Linnaean Plant Names and their Types.
