Chrysosplenium wrightii, commonly known as Wright's golden carpet, is a plant species in the Saxifragaceae family. It is native to northwestern North America and northeastern Asia, including British Columbia, Yukon, Alaska, Kamchatka, and parts of Siberia. The species was first described in 1878 based on material collected from the Sea of Okhotsk, likely from Sakhalin or the Kuril Islands, which were part of Japan at the time.
Description
Chrysosplenium wrightii is found in tundra and along stream banks at elevations up to 2300 m. It has a wide distribution across British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Kamchatka, Khabarovsk, Magadan, and Yakutskiya. The species was first described by Franch. & Sav. in 1878. Originally collected from the Sea of Okhotsk, the material was thought to be from Japan, which at the time included Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, now part of the Russian Federation.
