Wollemi Pine

Wollemia nobilis, known as Wollemi Pine, is a coniferous tree species in the family Araucariaceae. It is endemic to New South Wales, Australia, and was discovered in 1994 within the Wollemi National Park. The species was formally published in 1995. The genus Wollemia is named after the National Park where it was found and includes only this single species.
Description
Wollemia nobilis belongs to the Araucariaceae family, one of only three living genera in this group, along with Araucaria and Agathis. It was found in a remote, steep-sided sandstone gorge area within a temperate rainforest, approximately 150 km north-west of Sydney. The species is the only known representative of its genus and is native to Australia. The name Wollemia honors the Wollemi National Park, where the species was first identified.
