Mentzelia involucrata is a plant species in the family Loasaceae, native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts of North America, as well as parts of Nevada, Arizona, and Baja California, Mexico. It is known by the common names whitebract blazingstar, sand blazing star, and kuʼu. This species was first described by S. Watson in 1885.

Description

Mentzelia involucrata is a member of the Loasaceae family and is found in arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is adapted to desert environments and is part of the flora of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. The plant is recognized for its white bracts and is sometimes called sand blazing star or kuʼu in local nomenclature.
