Diplophyllum albicans (L.) Dumort.
Diplophyllum albicans (L.) Dumort. is a member of the Scapaniaceae family and is commonly known as white earwort. It is distributed across regions including Québec, Labrador, several Atlantic islands, and parts of Europe. The species was published in 1835. Taxonomic discussions indicate that the lectotype was designated from material in the Dillenius herbarium, though this was not examined by Linnaeus and is not considered original material for the name.
Description
Diplophyllum albicans (L.) Dumort. is a species in the Scapaniaceae family. It is found in areas such as Québec, Labrador, the Azores, Madeira, and parts of Western Europe. The name was published in 1835. Taxonomic clarification has been provided regarding its lectotype. Grolle designated a specimen from the Dillenius herbarium (OXF) as the lectotype, with an isotype in FI. However, this material was not examined by Linnaeus and is not considered original material for the name. Earlier, Isoviita (1970) considered a specimen (1267.11, LINN) possibly from Celsius but did not treat it as the type.
