Description
Ixia polystachya is a member of the Iridaceae family and is part of the Ixia genus. It is primarily found in the Cape Provinces of South Africa, particularly on hills and slopes in the northwest and southwest regions. Additional records indicate its presence in parts of Australia, the conterminous 48 United States, California, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. The species was first published by Linnaeus in 1762. A note in the discussion indicates that the name Ixia Linnaeus (1762) has nomenclatural priority over Ixia Linnaeus (1753).
