Paspalum urvillei, commonly known as Vasey grass, is a rhizomatous perennial grass in the Poaceae family. Native to South America, it has been introduced to regions including North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, and southern Africa. It is considered a noxious weed in Hawaii and New Caledonia. This grass can grow up to 2 meters tall and is often found in disturbed, moist habitats.

Description

Paspalum urvillei is a species of grass in the Poaceae family, known as Vasey grass. The grass is considered a noxious weed in Hawaii and New Caledonia. It is a rhizomatous perennial that can grow up to 2 meters in height. The leaves are up to 2.5 centimeters wide and have a prominent ligule. The inflorescence is a spreading or drooping structure with up to 20 branches. It thrives in disturbed habitats, particularly in moist areas.
